Today was pretty productive. I'm just a morning's ride away from Santa Barbara. I haven't checked but it must've been at least 50 miles I rode. Now I'm sore all over and wonderig about that hot spring I was told about.

I kept saying this was a shake down ride and that's exactly what it's been. The rear deraileur was bent when I got it, apparently from the crash that scratched it "cosmetically". @boxdogbikes warned me it was gonna pop links and that's exactly what it's done, four times now! It's the cheapo SRAM links I bought--but quickly replaced w/ the best Shimano XT chain--that keep coming unpinned.

To make matters worse the cassette wobbles on the freewheel. Maybe the guy who sold them to me forgot to mention (or the UPS guys played frisbee w/ them)

On the bright side; these Armadillo tires are kicking serious @$$! I thought 38mm was going to be too wide, and it may have been since lack of fender clearance got me stuck in mud the other night. Nevertheless, I have hit some gnarly stuff out on the road when I was busy looking off the cliffs on the coast and these things must be indestructable. Not one flat #kow and I they have gotten me out of some ridiculous situations.

Oil field camp

Yesterday was the worst day and today may have been the best so far. I got food in Soledad and did laundry. To my dismay I discovered that I have lost my tan Swobo riding knickers. I took them off when they got too wet where I took the picture of the cross. They may have fallen off after that, or I my have left them outside a gas station before that town that starts w/ a G.

After noon the rain stopped and I rode out of Soledad. I made it all the way here to some "Oil Field" north of San Miguel. The ground is soft and the 101 is far away. The dirt road looks as though noone comes here. My only concern are critters, but this close to a freeway I dont expect to be bothered. Glad I have some way to recharge my gadgets, but cranking this radio hurts my hands.

Hello beautiful day

Slept well enough. REI Sleeping pad has slow leak. Hot shower at the half moon bay camp site was heaven sent. Need to do laundry. Maybe in Santa Cruz. Good video of gigantic waves to upload. Took 3 hrs to break down camp. Sooo much wind, can't feel toes. Must get going, stomach wants breakfast. Too windy for alcohol stove. Maybe Santa will get me a Jetboil ;-)
